As part of the City Livery initiative to help people back into paid employment, we support The Clink Charity and its work with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service. Their aim is to reduce reoffending rates by providing prisoners with practical skills and rehabilitation in the latter part of their sentence.
Upon release, the newly qualified ex-offenders are placed in relevant employment, either in hospitality or horticulture, with the support of a comprehensive mentoring programme.
Recruit - Train - Support - Employ - Mentor
There are three prison-based projects staffed by prisoners; they work and train for 40 hours per week to gain the relevant City & Guilds qualification.
Clink Restaurants
A unique dining experience is delivered in restaurants and private dining rooms staffed by prisoners at HMP Brixton, HMP Cardiff, HMP High Down (Surrey), and HMP Styal (Cheshire). The venues are open to the public and may be booked online.
Clink Gardens
At HMP High Down, prisoners grow fresh, seasonal produce in six giant polytunnels for the restaurants.
Clink Events
A high quality catering service is provided for private and corporate events with all the food prepared at HMP Downview (Surrey) and delivered in refrigerated vans.
The Cooks’ Company currently supports the Clink Events training initiative by funding a Chef trainer. The training provided is of exceptionally high quality, cooking food from scratch using the latest techniques and equipment, and providing impeccable service.
To date, 1,800 prisoners have been trained and the chance of reoffending reduced by 49.6%.
